A social process can be detected through a social act, one of which being in the form of a speech act. It stands to reason then that language analysis can be used as one of the strategies for social analysis. This paper aims at revealing the social dynamics between students and teachers by critically looking at texts. Data are taken from audio recording. Verbal reactions from the interaction in class are analyzed using the critical discourse analysis theory based on the principles of systemic-functional grammar. Since social dynamics are closely related to the participants involved, this study focuses on the inter-personal meaning found in the texts by paying attention to the aspect mood. It was found that class interactions are largely dominated by-the teachers. Although still minimal in quantity and quality, the power struggle could be seen in the students' verbal communication. It can be concluded then that interpersonal relationship is stilI very much dominated by the teachers who have the managerial authority as well as the knowledge in class.
