Two cognitive semantic phenomena to be presented here are the processes of creating metaphors and metonymies in Indonesian. The questions to be answered are where do metaphors and metonymies start and how do they end. These questions bring about a discussion on the topics of metaphorization, metonimization, and lexicalization which can lead us to the discussion of the semantic changes as they are applied to Indonesian. The cognitive semantic approach is used in this paper resulting in the assumption that metaphorization is an analogical principle and brings with it conceptualization of one structural element through that of another. Meanwhile, metonimization is considered as a conceptualization of one structural element for another, both belonging to the same experiential scope.
