ASEAN has gone a long way to assert itself to play an important role in maintaining, and if necessary restoring peace and security in the region of Asia and the Pacific. Starting from efforts to build confidence among its member countries at the beginning, ASEAN has now indicated its preparedness to undertake, using all its mechanism including the ARF, conflict prevention, conflict resolution and post-conflict peace buiding activities to maintain international peace and security in Asia and the Pacific.
