THE PATTERN OF RETINOBLASTOMA AND ITS MANAGEMENT IN DR. SAIFUL ANWAR HOSPITAL 2004-2005

retinoblastoma is a primer intraocular malignant tumour mostly happened in children. Earlyu diagnostis and proper treatment is required for management of retinoblastoma. the aim of this study was to describe the pattern of retinoblastoma and its management. A retrospective descriptive study of retinoblastoma petients who were admitted in dr. Saiful Anwar hospital January 2004 to December 2005 was done. the data recorded included sex, the age at the time of diagnosis, familial history, tumor size, location of tumor, bilateral or unilateral and the treatment that is performed. There were 13 patients with clinical diadnosis of retinoblastoma, 8 were meals and 5 were females. the age ranged between 2,5 months to 48 48 months, with the everage was 28,9 moths. the most common stmptom was leucocoria (77%). all patients denied familial history of retinoblastoma. The range of tumor size was from 5 to 30 mm, with everage 15,7 mm. Reese Ellswortg classification showed 69,2% of the tumor classified as group 5, 23% as group 2A and 7,7% as group 1A. The most common location were intra ocular (77%), and the rest had extra ocular and intracranial . The tumor were usually unilateral (93,3%) only one patient had bilateral *7,7%). Management for retinoblastoma were enucleation (15,4%). enucleation with chemotherapy (23%), chemotherapy(7,7%), and 53,8% patients were dropped out from treatment. It can be concluded that patients with retinoblastoma in dr. Saiful Anwar hospital usually come in the late stage of disease, and the treatment that were performed was enucleation and chemotherapy but most patients were dropped out from treatment.
