Iron deficiency is a mayor public health problem in developing countries; 55-60% of pregnant mother suffer from anemia in developing countries. In Indonesia, National prevalence of anemia in pregnant mother is 59%, whereas in Singapore 8-30% and in Malaysia 34.6%. Iron deficiency anemia has been associated with increased bad risk for mother and infant. Recent studies suggest that material iron deficincy anemia may be associated with postpartum depression and poor performace on mental and psychomotor tests. At Cilandak Health Center, South Jakarta, which was opened since 1989 and many mothers carry out their antenatal care, the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia year to year continous to get worse (in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004; 20%, 26% 28% and 29.7% consecutively). the aim of this study is to address the above issue. Sample are pregnant mothers who carry out antenatal care in the above Health center who fulfill the inclusion criterias. Data were collected through qustioners and Hb were measured with Sahli Method. This study concluded among others that the interval between pregnancies is the determine factor of iron deficiency anemia of pregnant mother in this health center, and suggest that those who are in charge in this antenatal care should give detail informations on the risk of iron deficiency anemia of pregnant women, mostly those who have pregnancy interval less than 2 years and its prevention.
