Isi artikelThis issue is devoted to complementary alternative modalities (CAM). Therefore, it is only appropriate that this column is also devoted to the same theme. Many terms, such as complementary and alternative medicine/therapies, integrative medicine or health care, holistic care, and nontraditional care are used interchangeably with CAM. Complementary and alternative mean that a modality is used to complement and enhance or replace conventional or biomedical treatments, respectively. For personal preference, the term complementary and alternative therapy (CAT) is used in this column. Collectively, CAT refers to a multitude of nonconventional modalities used by health professionals to promote healing. CAT includes medical modalities such as acupuncture prescribed by physicians and nonmedical therapies such as message performed by licensed or nonlicensed therapists.
