Isi artikel
Many home health clients use alternative approaches to mental health care. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health is the federal government’s lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine. It was created in 1992 to help evaluate alternative methods of treatment and to integrate those that are effective into mainstream health care practice (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, National Mental Health Information Center [NMHIC], 2003). Its mission is to explore complementary and alternative healing practices in the context of rigorous science, to train complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) researchers, and to inform the public and health professionals about the results of CAM research studies (NMHIC, 2003).
