Nonroutine (those ordered specifically for a patient) medical supplies, under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, are required to be bundled into the Prospective Payment System (PPS) rate and subjected to the consolidated billing requirements. Before PPS was implemented on October 1, 2000, home health agencies (HHAs) could choose to unbundle the nonroutine supplies and permit suppliers to bill for these items under Medicare Part B.
