Isi artikel
As one of the largest Christian denominations in the world, Catholicism maintains beliefs based on a highly technical collection of creeds, definitions, and statements of faith and morality. This collection has been developed under the authority of the pope, the supreme leader of the Catholic Church, and handed down for centuries through Vatican councils. Catholics believe that their church is the one and only church founded by Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church is the premise by which the New Testament was written. (The New Testament was not written first and then followed by the church.) Historically, bishops are descendants of the apostles through ordination. The head of the church is the pope, who is granted full authority over the Church in matters of faith, morals, discipline, and government. The pope is infallible and revered as Christ on earth.
