Isi artikel
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) (2001) reported that approximately 19 million U.S. adults are affected by depressive disorders. Annually, at least 1% and 2% of people older than age 65 living in the community suffer from major depression, and another 13% to 27% have subclinical depressions that do not meet the diagnostic criteria for major depression or dysthymia, a less severe yet typically more chronic form of depression (NIMH, 2001). Additionally, depressive disorders are often comorbid with chronic illnesses that do not directly cause it, for example, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.
