Sound provides an obviously important but still underutilized channel for human/computer interaction. Speech recognition is sometimes used to provide hands-free input alternatives to the mouse and keyboard of computers. The physics of sound are important in order to better understand spatial audio. It is covered by important cues for sound localization by the human auditory system discussed in this article. These cues are azimuth cues, elevation cues, range cues and reverberation and echoes. Once the knowledge discussed is achieved then one can obtain a simpler understanding of the concept of human spatial hearing such as how one perceives sound that comes from a source in a certain location.
