The idea of a “learning organization” has been around for quite a while. However, it was Peter Senge, in his 1990 text The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization, who really gave it impetus. Senge describes learning organizations as “organizations where people continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire, where new and expansive patterns of thinking are nurtured, where collective aspiration is set free, and where people are continually learning how to learn together” (p. 3).
