Isi artikel
The period of the Enlightment coincides with the collapse of black Africa: kingdoms and empires caved in as a result of the slave trade. Enlightment personalities such as Montesquieu, Rousseau, adn Voltaire were unanimous in condemning the evils of slavery, yet not one of them made the link between desparaging attitudes towards black people and the ensuing justification for their enslavement.
