Isi artikel
Tuberculosis is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis, an organism which has a resistant waxy component in its structure and is acid and alcohol-fast. Primary injection usually seen in none-immune children in first contact with tuberculosis. Reinjection of tuberculosis occurs in older children and adults who have had a primary infection or have received BCG vaccination by which a variable degree of immunity to the tubercle bacillus has been established. The risk of acquiring M. tuberculosis infection is determined mainly by exogenous factors, and the risk of developing disease after being injected depends largely on endogenous factors. The key to diagnosis of tuberculosis is a high index of suspicion. A number of methods have been proposed as adjuncts to standard radiographic diagnosis. The most thoroughly investigated is serologic diagnosis based on detection of antibody to a variety of mycobacterium antigens.
