Isi artikelOne of the common disorders in verbal expression can be seen among stroke patients. Stroke is a medical problem caused by a blockage in the blood of the blood vessels that transport blood to the brain, leading to hemorrhage or disfunction of brain. When the linguistic function is disrupted, linguistic disturbances occur. Various linguistic disturbances (generally known as aphasia) can be studied or analyzed by observing the language disorder of stroke patients. Language disorders are described in this paper by using the speech-disturbance theory, namely the phonological errors and production theory by Kohn (1993), Blumstein (1994) and Auden & Bastiaanse (1999). The research methodology of the study is the psycho-neurolinguistic method involving case observation and natural observation among stroke patients who are speakers of the Minangkabau language. Data were obtained from stroke patients undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The verbal expressions of stroke patients, who are speakers of the Minangkabau language, occur in various forms of verbal errors, namely, verbal replacement error (32%), verbal abolition (48%), verbal nonsequences (10%), verbal additon (4%), and verbal abbreavition (5,5%).
