Isi artikelDutch sailors and ministers had recorded the seventeenth century Malay pronouns in their conversation book and grammar that they wrote. For example, Frederick de Houtman in Spareck ende woord-boeck (1603) listed the Malay pronouns in one of his conjugation tables. Then, Danckaerts (1623) in his dictionary co-authored with Casper Wiltens, also discussed the Malay pronouns in his appendix entitled Observationes aliquot hinc illinc decerptae ex Grammatica latina, utilissmae studiosis linguae Malaicae, insulis lava Amboyna, Moluccis. Banda & earunde circuvicinys usurpatae. Later, in 1614, appeared a complete Malay grammar written by Roman who also discussed the Malay pronouns. This article attempts to discuss the seventeenth century Malay pronouns in de Houtman (1603), Dackaerts (1623) and Roman (1614). The discussion will focus on the fonns, functions and usage of Malay pronouns in the seventeenth century, from the perspective of the history of linguistics.
