Much of the schol arly work on lin eages has focused on cor porate land or how such prop erty became a dom inant fea ture of Chinese lin-eages. This article, draw ing on inten sive field work in the New Territories of Hong Kong, represents a depar ture from this in ana lyzing how sell ing off corporate land holdings affected the lin eage, whose members remain linked even though they increas ingly make their homes else where.
