Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is an approach to mathematics teaching and learning that has been regarded as very promising in the effort for improving the quality of mahematics education in our schools, due to the principles and the characteristics of RME. Based on this understanding, RME has been tried out in some elementary schools. The principles and characteristics of RME are also regarded as very suitable for improving the quality of mathematics education in junior and senior high schools. Based on this reason, ills very likely that RME will also be implemented in junior and senior high schools. However, the implementation of RME in these schools might face some difficulties. In this article the writer describes these djfficulties and gives some suggestions in order to make this implementation feasible and successful.
