Isi artikel
One of the key strategies to eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities is to develop a diverse and culturally competent health promotion workforce. Strategic collaboration between professional preparation programs, health departments, and community-based organizations has the potential for both enhancing the diversity of the health education profession, while providing support to local efforts to eliminate health disparities. Early in 2000, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Health Promotion and Public Health Education (ASTDHPPHE) invited faculty from accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) to discuss issues relating to capacity building and strengthening health education programs. Their goal was to foster dialogue among institutions and generate strategies to increase the participation of minority students, faculty, and professionals in the area of health education and community health promotion. One of the early products of the dialogue was a report, Building Capacity for Health Promotion Programs in Minority-Serving Institutions.”
