The contemporary situation of belief in Europe is epistemologically shaped not only by the theoretical but also by socio-cultural, political and economic changes. As a scholar of systematic theology, I am not competent to analyze all of these developments in the same thoroughgoing manner. What I am going to do is to describe this epistemic situation by means of a rough draft that will focus on the theoritical and socio-cultural conditions at play. This is because they are closer to philosophical and theological tools of analysis than are the spheres of politics and economics, through the draft is open also to them.
