Barrier technologies for rigid packaging proliferate, but challenges remain. Actis bottles from Sidel. A number of barrier technologies compete in the rigid packaging market. Graham Packaging's SurShort technology has seen broad use, including in this apple juice bottle. Larger plasma coating systems, such as the Actis 48 shown here, may help lower the cost/bottle premium for these coatings.
