Bamboo and timber are types of material for constrction that is of material for construction that is avaibable,renewable and of great artistic value.In general,traditional houses use natural environment materials that can be simply processed.Tongkonan for example,has a high cultural heritage,is one of type of traditional houses in Toraja.Based on general knowledge and belief of the Torajan,the roof of Tongkonan is holy and an honorable part of house.This article based on descriptive observation focuses on the roff structure of the Tongkonan house.It looks like a wooden traditional boat or a buffalo horn,it is made of timber,which is connected structurally with a dowel system of rattan,followed by a cover of longitudinal cut bamboo and connected systematically with chain connection.The parts of the roof structure are simply supported by beams and have a wasting cross section within it.
