Under the New Order, there is uneasy relationship between the Indonesian Chinese and the Moslem community. This situation has occured because of the continuity of colonial structure under the New Order. In same cases, the anti-Chinese riots is so often to be linked with the political violence by the Moslem anger who have experienced political-economic deprivation and marginalized by the New Order's economic policy. The Moslems have viewed that the economic policy of Soeharto regime has favored the big capitalists consist of the Chinese and foreign capital,meanwhile, this has pushed aside the Moslem traders. So, eventually, when the economic crisis happened in 1997-1998, the anti-Chinese violence inevitably occurred, partly caused by such complicated issues.
