The law enforcement community and the criminal justice system have embraced the emergence of the postbureaucraticera and its emphasison more community responsibility. In particular, the organizational and philosophical strategy of community polic ing seeks to coproduce public safety and public order by inte grating or part nering the local police depart ment with its citizens. Although a plethora of research exists on the topic of cit izen perceptions and satisfaction with community policing, an important sector of citIzens has been over looked and left out of this process children and teenagers. This article uses focus group interviewing and anethnographic content analysis to examine the pe ceptions of innercity children and teenagers in a neigh borhood of Ath ens, Georgia, on law enforcement in general and community polic ing in paticular. This research yields important implications for law enforcement leadership, train ing, and cit izen evaluations of public programs.
