Isi artikel
The Liberal Democratic Party, which has led Japan politically for much of the period since the end of World War II, has often been described as a catch-all party. According to this conventional assessment, the LDP has brought together people with a wide range of ideologies without attempting to screen them for their views. It has even taken in politicians whose main concern is the furtherance of special interests. It has thus been a veritable “saladbowl.” In this article I shall trace the ideological lineage of the prime ministers who have left a major mark on Japan’s postwar history; I hope this will contribute to an understanding of conservative politics in Japan through the present day.
