Isi artikel
This study is to find out language variations and lexical differences and to observe closely interlanguage influences which would enable to classify groups of language, dialect, and subdialect areas based on lexical variation. This study is also to compare the distance location with the percentage of lexical distance of the villages. The result indicates that the linguistic distance between the localties cannot be used to determine the difference of the lexical contrast and the distance between two neighboring villages. There is high degree of similarity of phonic substances, segments of sound in a stream of speech, revealing that there is a high degree of mutual intelligibility among most speakers of both speech communities. It can, therefore, be concluded that both Dun and Toraja languages spoken in marginal areas of Alla and Mengkendek subdistricts have a high degree of genetic relation.
