Isi artikelGrievance arbitration is well established in north american labor relations, and arbitrators are given great authority to make what are often very subjective decisions, especially in discipline or discharge grievances. The literature on criminology includes extensive field and experimental research on the effects of defendants' personal characteristics on judges' decisions in the criminal justice system, but there has been very little research on the effects of grievants personal characteristics on arbitrators' decisions.
