Isi artikelScott (1971) has suggested that multidivisional forms, in contarst to functional structures, are more able to manage further growth by diversification. The argument is that the creation of the divisions provides several points at which growth through product innovation, geographical expansion and acquinsition can be managed. Rumelt stated that one of the barriers to corporations in the low diversification category of dominant vertical diversifying, is that they tend to have complex functional organizations. Functional structures have few numeralists who can take an overall view of the firm's needs.
