Isi artikelHerman Melville is a famous American writer who has written more than 10 (ten) novels, several short novels, and some poems. His works are prominent, be¬cause they have many specialities, for example the characterization of a person in each novel or short novel is unusual, in which the character is described as a deviant person who is too good or too bad; the setting employed is too uncomfortable to dwell, etc. Many critics see that his works are overwhelmed with his experiences and understanding of life as a sailor and also as an ordinary man. In the short novel chosen to be discussed the use of such a deviant person and an uncomfortable set¬ting are also found. Therefore. this article attempts to discover the significant of them by using the Objective Approach.
