A fire-fighting robot is one of type of mobile robot that often involve in Indonesia smart robot contest every year. The robot must find it’s way through an arena that represents a model of house, find a light of candle that represents a fire in the house, extinguish the fire in the shortest time, and return to it’s original location. These paper discusses about design and implementation of fire fighting robot. The robot consists of 2 DC motor, 9 optical sensors and controlled by Atmel A T89S51 microcontroller. Displacement of robot is detected using optical shaft encoder. The robot sensors are: 5 sensors for wall proximity detection, 2 sensors to detect crossing way, 1 sensor to detect floor markings, and 1 sensor for fire detection. The fan was used to extinguish the candle after robot had found it. The results are robot can search the fire in the room and able to extinguish the fire in the candle. The robot sometime fails to return at home position caused by accumulation error from optical shaft encoder.
