The market universe is composed of two types of oceans: red oceans and blue oceans. Red oceans are all the industries existence today-the known market space. In the red oceans, industry boundaries are defined. The industris have fought for competitive advantage, battled over market share, struggled for differentiation, and stolen customers from rivals. Blue oceans, in contrast, denote all the industries not in existence today-the unknown market space, untainted by competition.
