Isi artikelApoplosis, or programmed cell death, is defined by morphologic change in nonpathologic cell loss and is relevant to a wide spectrum of biology. Apoptosis is initiated by activation of CASPASES, Cystein Aspartyl-Specific Proteases, Which, on the other hand, can be activated by death receptor (extrinsic) and mitochondrial (intrinsic) pathway. Morphologically, apoptosis is characterized by cellular shrinking, chromatin condensation, cytoplasmic membrane blebbing and the released of small membrane bound apoptolic bodies, organdies and nuclear fragments are generally phagocytosed without causing an inflammatory response. Dysregulated apoptosis may contribute to a number of diseases such as cancer (in insufficient apoptosis.) and neurodegenerative disorders (in excessive apoptosis).
