Isi artikel
The last time the united states had, on the unified basis, a balanced budget was 1969, when there was a surplus of $ 3 billion. The last decade in which the budget deficit averaged less than 1 percent of GDP was the 1960s, when it was 0,8 percent. But the current budget outlook has turned sharply for the better. The closer alignment of revenues and outlays will have a number of economic consequences, and it will also affect financial markets. After revieweing the recent progress and the new budget agreement, this paper turns to the major economic consequences of a balanced budget upon the economy. This background is then used to assess the potential impacts on the prices of financial assets.
