Isi artikelNon farm payroll employment is one of our most important economic indicators, offering timely information on economic conditions with rich industry and geographic detail. The bureau of labor statistics (BLS) is completing the second phase of a major redesign of the current employment statistics (CES) program, which provides monthly estimates of jobs, hours and earnings. This redesign will move the CES from a quota to a probability sample and should address the problems associated with business births and deaths. For this statistics corner, we have asked the BLS to give us an update on their progress.
