Isi artikelGlobal economic integration is happening rapidly in an unanticipated manner. Rather than being integrated through the activities of transnational enterprises, the world's economies are bieng tied together through the on going formation of partnerships, allliances coproduction agreements, joint ventures, and other tools among leading firms. This reflects the on going "dis - integration" of large companies' integrated value creating activities in the face of burgeoning difital technology. This development requires firms and governments to change their perspectives. For fiems, competition will progressively entail identifying and nurturing differentiating value - creating activities rather than integrating new activities into the firm. For nations, the "system" that governs firms' incentives - including corporate governance, capital market structure, and economic policy - will grow in importance as a source of national advantage.
