Isi artikelThis study was caried out to know the influence of polyethylene glycol 400 and polyethylene glycol 4000 combinations (5: 90, 10: 85, 15: 20: 75) as suppository bases on physical characteristics and release kinetics of paracetamol from suppositories. This study resulted white colour suppositories and terpedo shape, and absence of smell, fissuring, pitting and migration of paracetamol. None of the individual weight of suppository deviated from the planned weight by more than 5% and none of the indvidual paracetamol content was outside the limits 90% to 110% of the planned amout of paracetamol. The result of measuring of point and liquefaction time by Tube U were all of suppositories having melting point between 41,2a – 48,9o C and liquefaction time betwee 46,28 –60,21 minutes, and mehanical strength that measured by Eberle mechanical Strength Apparatus resulted mecahnical strength between 0,6 – 1,2 kg. These three characteristics will increase if the amount of polyethylene glycol 400 in suppositories increase. A rotating-basket dissolution test was used to measure the release kinetics of paracetamol from suppositories. The amount and the rate of paracetamol which released from suppositories will increase when the content of polyethylene glycol 400 increase because base solubylity increase.
