However, it is quite right for lecturers and students of English department to ask themselves one of the most basic phenomena of language use in daily life, that is, what is argument? There are many possible answers. This article will try to provide few definitions of argument as well as its practical applications related to argumentation analysis and argumentative devices. In addition, this article presents practical applications of argumentative devices which can be used as an alternative approach for analyzing essays, articles, speeches, short stories, novels, and other literary works.
