Isi artikelIn an effort to develop a more efficient communications network, north carolina's state government (NCSG) has implemented a number of pilot programs throughout the state. The success of these programs has convinced NCGS that the development of the north carolina information highway (NCIH) is crucial not only to its own network, but ultimately to the state's economy as well. In spite of the obvious merits of the project, however, the state legislature has been overwhelmed with cost studies and projected financial requirements, causing many legislators to question the ultimate price of the highway. This paper examines : 1. NCGS's need for such a network 2. broadband technology and what it will allow users to do 3. highway applications for the NCSG and the potential state economic impact, and 4. financing issues that NCSG will face for the foreseable future.
