Isi artikelCalifornia in November 1994 turned down by a decisive vote proposition 186 that would have initiated a single - prayer, government - run health care system for all residents of california. A major argument against the issue was its costs and the level of taxation it would require. No one believed that, by eliminating private health insurers, enough money could be saved to pay for the benefits and the expensiver government bureaucracy that it would create. The lesson for the U. S. is that passage of national health care reform is not likely, but incremental health care reform before the 1996 election is.
