Isi artikel
Endocrine cancer is rare. Surgery is the only curative form of treatment for patients with endocrine cancer. Malignant endocritic tumors generally are slowly progressive, and patients may live for many years with metastatic disease. Therefore, aggressive surgery to remove primary and metastatic tumors may be indicated. Surgical resection of localized tumors often results in cure. Surgical resection of metastatic tumors may prolong survival. Surgery may alleviate symptoms related to excessive hormone production and tumor mass. The surgeon must individualize the use of surgery in patients with endocrine cancer to determine the resectability of the tumor, the potential morbidity rate, and the benefit to the patient.
