Parathyroid localization studies have been advocated for routine use prior to surgery to improve outcome, to save time, and to reduce cost. Because of the high success rate for surgery alone, these studies are indicated for reoperative cases only. A new algorithm that combines sestamibi imaging and ultrasonography is proposed.
