Recent advances in molecular and cell biology have improved our understanding of the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer. This article reviews the factors that influence thyroid cell growth, the cellular signal transduction pathways through which these growth factors work, and the oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes that contribute to the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer by affecting these signal transduction pathways.
