Chronic mesenteric ischemia classically presents with postprandial abdominal pain and weight loss in a patient with advanced atherosclerosis. Angiography remains the diagnostic gold standard, although several new diagnostic techniques have proved useful, including color duplex imaging and MR imaging. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment are essential to avoid the catastrophic events of acute intestinal ischemia and infarction.
