The elderly population is prone to wounds that may result from trauma, chronic disease, major surgery, and cancer treatment. The medical condition of these patients should be given careful attention prior to embarking on surgery to repair such wounds. A host of reconstructive options are available that can be tailored to a patient’s particular needs. Underlying medical conditions, however, may limit the surgical options.
