There have been dramatic changes in the surgical care of urologic patients during the past decade. Many formerly common operations have been replaced by medical therapy or minimally invasive procedures. At the same time, improvements in surgical technique and perioperative care have produced a resurgence in radical surgery for urologic cancer. This article focuses on the changing surgical management of urologic disease and its effect on the elderly patient.
