Isi artikel
As the demand for nutritional support for the elderly has increased, new materials and methods have become available to the surgeon to establish a feeding access and to deliver specialized feeding formulas. A variety of minimally invasive techniques, including endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and laparoscopy, can be used for placement of feeding tubes. For long-term feeding, gastrostomy tubes have been found to be more advantageous than jejunostomy tubes. Nutritional support has become an essential component of home care services for the elderly and has facilitated the transition from hospital to home.
