Minimal access surgery offers several advantages to infants and children including shorter hospitalizations, less postoperative pain, and a shorter period of restricted activity. Techniques for laparoscopic fundoplication, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and inguinal exploration for hernias are described. The authors review their experience with these procedures and outline the many potential uses for laparoscopy in children.
