Isi artikelThyroid and parathyroid surgery should be performed with low morbidity. Potential complications include postoperative hemorrhage and airway obstruction, changes in voice quality from injury to the recurrent or superior laryngeal nerves, postoperative hypocalcemia from inadvertent parathyroid gland injury, thyroid storm following surgery for hyperthyroidism, and persistent hypercalcemia after cervical exploration for primary hyperparathyroidism. These complications are discussed along with suggestions for reducing their occurrence.
