Isi artikelWith the development of sensitive screening assays to more adequately protect blood, perinatal (mother-to-infant) transmissions of the virus has become the most commonly reported HIV transmission risk for children. The shift in transmission risk means that the immature immune systems and developing and growing organs of fetuses and infants are affected by HIV infection. Perinatal HIV infection has unique features that are not commonly reported in adult hosts. This article reviews the organspecific manifestations of perinatally acquired HIV infection.
