Isi artikel
ADHD persists into adolescence for 78% of children diagnosed with this condition, interfering with school performance, self-esteem, family relationships, and predisposing teenagers towards high-risk behaviors. The pediatrician needs to adjust the style of managing ADHD in younger children to take into account the developmental tasks of adolescence. Teenagers should be involved in treatment decision making and should have their concerns about ADHD and its treatments addressed. Pediatricians should provide anticipatory guidance and referral to mental health professionals and educators as needed regarding the school and home problems of adolescents with ADHD.
